Wedding Cake Alternatives

Love is Sweet!

Everybody loves cake, but then again it’s nice to change things up a bit, especially on your wedding day.

Whilst some traditional wedding cakes are beautiful and taste great and cupcakes can be cute and pretty too, there are so many alternatives that will most definitely WOW you and your guests.

For those who don’t have much of a sweet tooth, let’s start with our most unique alternative to wedding cake, and something savoury…

Wedding Cheese Cakes/Cheese Boards

Cake shaped sculptures of cheese! Each layer is a different type of cheese chosen by the bride and groom. After everyone has seen the cheese stacked to resemble a cake it is disassembled later and used as an after dinner cheeseboard. These are becoming really popular for weddings.

Now on to the sweet treats!

Doughnuts

These might not be what you think you’d see at a fabulous wedding but this is honestly one of my favourite wedding ideas! With so many varieties and heaps of different fillings the humble doughnut can be a very cost-effective and a cute wedding cake alternative. And who doesn’t love doughnuts?!

Macarons

A macaron is a sweet meringue like cookie filled with buttercream, jam or various other fillings. They’re so tasty and melt in your mouth. Macarons are slowly taking over the wedding scene in Ireland which is quite fine because they’re so elegant and tasty.

Croquembouche

This is a traditional French dessert. It is made of fluffy, bite-size cream filled choux pastries similar to éclairs, then they are assembled into a cone shape using caramelised sugar. You can then have your croquembouche drizzled with chocolate or caramel.

Cake Pops

Individual decorated cake pops with lovely toppings and tasty fillings are a fun alternative to cake. You can get them in all shapes, sizes and styles.

For those brides and grooms who are indecisive why not have it all!
