Middleton Park Tours of Ireland

Trees are silent guards, they are the listeners and they hold knowledge mankind has long forgotten.
- The Wolf and The Druidess

Welcome to Middleton Park House. Nationally recognised as one of Ireland’s premier country houses we at Middleton Park House extend a truly authentic Irish Céad Mile Fáilte to all our guests and visitors.
Heralded and renowned for our luxurious suites, bedrooms, fine dining, courtesy, and customer service; set amid 27 acres of unspoilt lush forests and green fields, Middleton Park is a haven of romance, mystery, and tranquility where indigenous wildlife of deer rabbits and foxes, coexist with nature and domestic farm animals alike, amongst the fairy forts and pastures that encompass our exquisite property.

Lords and Ladies

Embrace the opportunity to stroll through our Drawing Rooms and Library, discover our Banqueting Hall embellished with fine examples of handcrafted cornices and covings. View the many examples of fine art and period furniture throughout this magnificent feat of Victorian architecture.

Only service areas are not viewable to our guests as we believe that upon arrival to Middleton Park the house is yours. Tread the floors and magnificent staircases where once Lords and Ladies walked and regaled each other with tales of empires, Kings and Queens. Take afternoon tea in our Richard Turner conservatory, wonder at this inspiring feat of engineering and craft that was the genius of Turner.

Corncrakes

Save for a cry that echoes shrill
From some lone bird disconsolate;
A corncrake calling to its mate;
The answer from the misty hill.
– Oscar Wilde

After a day of travelling, touring or activities retire to one of our palatial suites or luxurious bedrooms.
Sleep peacefully in surroundings’ of magnificent grandeur and serenity where the fading call of the endangered Corncrake echoes across Lough Ennell and meanders through the forests blending with the chorus of local fauna,
far from the dulling clamours of the modern age. While you sleep we at Middleton Park House plan and concoct like the fairs of legend, to make your next day more magical than the last.

Middleton Park House was built in 1850 during the great Irish famine of 1845-1850.

Upon arrival at Middleton Park House you will notice the plush green acres and forests that surround the house. View the indigenous fowl and livestock thrive on land rich in vitality and blessed by Mother Nature.

Our award winning chefs utilise this bounty of natural produce in the pursuit of perfection, preparing dishes of outstanding care and quality to compliment and indeed honour the land and animals from where it is sourced.

The Kitchen Bistro at Middleton Park only serves food made in our kitchen, with NO pre-prepared products entertained. Our local populace appreciate our standards and our Sunday lunch is much talked of and celebrated. Our guests can also avail of the opportunity to assist our chefs in making traditional Irish Soda Bread and Scones and then enjoy them in our Turner Conservatory during afternoon tea.

Stout and Uisce Beatha

Aware that we neighbour Ireland’s oldest and finest distillers of whiskey, Locke’s Distillery in Kilbeggan where according to world famous psychics and mediums, spirits and ghosts closely guard secrets of old distilling techniques, Middleton Park House stocks many of our countries finest brands of whiskey.

Our extensive bar is a bastion of music, storytelling and as we Irish say “craic”. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will chat like old friends and are old hands at making traditional beverages, like Irish and Bailey’s coffees. Make your own, or pull your first pint of Guinness.

Our grand piano is always available to those that can play and add to the entertainment. Traditional Irish music sessions and folk singing remain most popular with guests and patrons

The Children of Lir and Tír na nÓg

Middleton Park House is uniquely placed in the hinterland of the Lake County beset by hills and lakes, astride virgin peat bogs, steeped in folklore, history and myth.

Lough Derravaragh where in Irish legend The Children of Lir, turned into swans by the jealous Aoife, spent 300 years of torment and misery, is but minute’s away. The ancient hills of Uisneach and Croughan offer historical trails for walking and exploration. Boating and fishing on Lough Ennll, Viking Cruises on the river Shannon to the ancient monastery at Clonmacnoise and visits to some of Ireland’s most important historic sites and scenic attractions are just a sample of what we have to offer.
